Salton Sea area Changes?

Appears the geothermal area around the Salton Sea is very rich in lithium; enough to power all the EV's one could want with battery production in the US and about a fourth ( that may be low) of the world's known quantity. Right now the plan is for extraction alongside the current hydrothermal plants in place. Additional planning provides for area growth in jobs and a cleanup for the Salton Sea. So, IMO the jury is out on this. The funky, sort of low rent charm of the place might go away. In exchange the sea might be healthier for all the wildlife it supports.

Thanks for motivating me to search lithium mining. I was expecting massive holes like diamond mining. Found an article on the South American operation and it appears if it is done like at the Salton Sea it could be one of the greenest mining operations.

With Warren Buffett's wealth down to a paltry $125 billion, his company, BHE Renewables has been awarded a matching $15 million Government Grant to build a demonstation facility at the Salton Sea. This is on top of a $6 million grant to BHE from the California Energy Commission. Mathew Lesko is alive and well.

Isn't the rallying cry across our country is to make the US energy and resource independent?

I wasn't complaining...just pointing it out. I always got a kick out of those Lesko commercials. As long as Newsom and the Cahuilla indians don't sell it all to China it should provide enough lithium to produce many car batteries.

You and I both know how Cahuilla is pronounced. I was showing a Cahuilla basket to a gentleman and he replied how brutal they were to fight against. I had to think for a moment and then realized.......Koreans, ah yes. But we were talking about California Natives near Palm Springs.

Maybe he was older than he looked.
