A couple of days ago I watched great a drone video of a site in Nine Mile Canyon.
Today a 3D was posted. Most awesome!

It wouldn't have been much fun fetching rocks for that project.

Yes this is a classic head scratcher. What did you do to get sent here as a lookout? Was it just a show of force, like so many we see here? Initiation into group, manhood, vision quest? The best effing grain storage around? Whatever it's "purpose" was, it made a statement.

The 3D model and the drone photo don't seem to be of the same stucture. I went through all of Kevin Wellard's drone footage (that I could find), and this fort was not shown. Seems like it would be important in the "archie" world. There was a nearly identical structure but not sitting on the same outcropping of rock. Not saying it's photoshopped but it sure is a head scratcher.

While I suppose it could be a result of poor 3D imaging, there are enough differences I tend to agree

His drone footage of this site is on a couple of different FB groups, but I couldn't capture it for here. Only a still photo that I could do a screen shot of. It is in the Archaeological Aerial Photography group and Petroglyphs, also on his home page, but not Youtube.....yet.

It is pretty cool what people are doing with drones and 3D imaging. I hadn't heard of it until the other day when I saw a similar one by some local folks.

I haven't looked up how it's done yet...must be some Lidar-like capability?

@Hansenaz
Good article on this topic.

Just one example of a software package. Used in industrial / Real Estate but obviously has many other applications where a 3d model would be helpful.

Kevin Wellard uses Agisoft Metashape and posted this yesterday.
