@azbackpackr Agreed; yet that’s not why he did it.

Yes, I know there are people like that. Just like at Grand Canyon. Then that attracts others to do something similar. And then you have what you have today. A whole bunch of people going out into nature who don't give a damn about nature. It's all about the "Challenge."

Ya know, he probably saw a lot more those 15 days than those smelling roses would see in a year. Just saying, going slow, doesn't mean you see more. On the contrary, it means you see less.

If "seeing" means "covering more territory," then he did. I think "seeing" means close examination over time, time to ruminate and think about what you're seeing. An observant person can see more wandering around in one acre of woods than most will notice on a ten-mile hike.

Well, most of the CO alpine wildflowers don't have much of a scent. Of course you can't be sure until you check.

I think it's cool when people do what makes them happy and don't worry about the approval of the outdoor gatekeepers

People can hike their own hike. People can also express their own opinion. Isn’t life great!?

Love the gatekeeping. You know what? I've done things fast, and I've done them slow. Somehow I found a way to enjoy myself in either case.

This Dan Hobbs guy has almost certainly summitted many 14ers at a more reasonable pace before setting his speed record.

@Pivo That was an awful lot of words to say “I need attention and acknowledgment to feel good about myself”
