Whether you agree with the article or not and the way they determined the best, I found it interesting.

Arizona ranks 6th, behind #1 Connecticut, Massachusetts, Hawaii, California and New Jersey?

Completely wacky scoring system. Why are waterfalls so important? They don’t seem to be taking national forest land into consideration in terms of area? I think I’m still okay with Louisiana being dead last though—no argument there.

My hypothesis for NJ is the proximity of the Appalachian Trail (and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area) to NYC and its suburbs. Several state and county parks with good hiking also get heavy use. According to the Pocono Record, the DWGNRA is 14th most-visited of the 424 entities managed by NPS.

Yup. This is interesting for sure. Stupid. But still interesting.

Yup. You might be from Connecticut or New Jersey if you think that State Parks and National Parks are the only public land out there! :lol: (Not to mention the comprehension required to understand that average temperature across a large western state is literally not a comparable value to CT NJ MA etc.) ](*,) ](*,)

But it got clicks! Including ours! :y:

The best State to hike in is the State you live in because those are trails closest to home.

@chumley

The "average" temperature was a dumb thing for them to cite. For 3/4 of the year, the temperature will be either 25 or 85 during tourist hiking hours. Well really just 85, because the tourists stay home when it's cold. That's one reason I do more local hiking in the winter.

If you factor in deer ticks, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey move way down on my list.

Another reason to hike mostly in winter.

I'm not gonna further promote this trash by actually linking to it, but I'll drop this screenshot here and let you all decide how interesting you really think it is. :lol:
