Climbing Partner

I'm looking for somebody to gain more experience with. I have nearly 20 sessions in at the indoor gym, but really want to get outside. I took lead climbing class, have quick draws, rope, helmet, essentially all the gear for basic climbing, but has been difficult finding somebody who also wants to climb.

I've EXTENSIVE experience out doors, gear, etc. Most of my time is spent in Tumacacori Highlands / Ruby Road, Sanata Ritas, Cerro Colorado, and Los Guijas Mountains. I've been from Alaska to Mexico in mountains. I'm out at least once a week exploring new areas. I just don't really have anybody to climb with outside the gym and am not much of an indoor guy. I'd love if you'd be interested in letting a beginner hang with you a bit to learn the ropes.

I additionally have some professional training in rappelling and ropework but was a long time ago so don't remember too much of it.

Thanks!

As this is primarily a hiking site rather than a climbing site, you will not likely see any type of HAZ events pop-up related to climbing. There are a few climbers about on HAZ though who could PM you, especially if you establish a regular presence on HAZ (posting triplogs/photos/etc) and don't just disappear after a few posts and few to no trips.

If you are looking for a quicker response, you may want to check with your local climbing gym to get involved in local climbing clubs, or if you dare, brave the internet groups that focus on climbing, such as the groups on Facebook, Meetup, etc.

I have climbed with the Arizona Mountaineering Club before, and while they aren't necessarily going to get a glowing review from me, they seemed at least competent in handling newbie climbers. My dislike comes from my feeling that it felt more of an outdoor rock gym business than a club IMO. But perhaps that is exactly what you are looking for?

@nonot thanks for the info. I've not had much luck finding people at the rock wall gym. I found that the gym is good for finding people who climb indoor walls. I think maybe similar to your experience with the "Arizona Mountaineering Club". I will look them up though, maybe I could meet some people there who'd like to go off on their own.

Meetup looked a bit limited, seemed to loop back to gym. I've not had good luck. It's been tricky with internet communities. I really need to find an old fashioned community that's real and not social networking / internet based. I'll reach out to that "Arizona Mountaineering Club."

With the posting hikes, I've not done that yet. The site has been super helpful. I have a friend who does post them. I've been posting to YouTube but not sure how helpful my hikes would be. I don't follow any established trails. Many times we just go look at a pile of rocks or water fall or other unnamed spot. I'd love to share though... Is there a place for that sort of thing?

Zero pressure to follow through, most post triplogs(sounds like yours would be generic-based) and are beneficial for others to get to know you.
Overview: [ Posting Help & Tips ]
Use +Add for all at the top of any non-map page.

The HAZ Forum is mainly a hideout for weather nerds, some dude from New Jersey, and a place for former hikers such as @Alston_Neal to hang out when he isn't searching for feral cats with his drone.

Maybe hang around some of the more popular bouldering spots around the Valley? You might be able to find some potential partners that way. Even if you strike out, you’d at least still be outside doing something.

Great ideal I'll make a quote there.

Has been on my mind. I live about a good hour from anywhere where people congregate to climb. Hoping to increase my odds.

In my experience, quite a few! I started a YouTube and made my hiking partner a small celebrity in Green Valley.
