Tribal leaders want white-colored animals protected internationally

A rare white bison calf was born in Yellowstone National Park last summer. Now, the idea of protecting such animals is gaining support among conservationists and tribal communities.
Phil Two Eagle, who’s Sicangu Lakota, believes the white bison calf — even rarer because it has a black nose and eyes — fulfills a tribal prophecy. He said it’s both a blessing and a warning of future disasters.

White buffalo calves can often darken as they mature, usually due to a genetic condition called leucism. I guess because of the people in my biz and social world I hear about them almost every year, I just don't consider them that rare. “We need to get ready for something that's coming,” Two Eagle said. That would have been somewhere around 1491. It annoys me sometimes when Natives are cast as a one thought group like a religion. All have their own prophecies and creation stories and they all don't involve white buffalo. We had a barn owl hang out in our tree at home for awhile. Told my Navajo friends and they freaked out, omen of coming death. My Hopi friends were excited we had been blessed, good omen.

Pick your thing. Pretend everybody with that thing is the same. It's stupid.

Yeah I'm usually skeptical of a strong position taken by a Native person or group that makes it out into the world. Homogeneous they are not. I don't think there are many generic "white people" positions I'd sign on to, particularly those made by folks with the loudest voices.

I disagree, as a white colored animal, I think that I can safely speak for all of us when I say I want to be added to a list for international protections. Although, this is a list of white animals, so .....no names, or identifiers, and certainly no location information. Well, let's just say that if you see me, I am sacred. Can we agree to that?

Sounds like racism to me. What about all the sacred black and brown animals? What's to become of them? Oh, woe is me, I have something new to worry about.
