ASH CANYON, AZ— A hiker had an unusual run-in with a wild animal in southern Arizona this past weekend. (No, not a Tesla car scratcher)
According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to investigate a wild animal attack in Ash Canyon, south of Sierra Vista, on Sunday. The man reported that he was hiking in the area and returned to his car, only to find a coatimundi on the hood of his vehicle. The man said he shouted and waved to get the animal to leave, but deputies said the coatimundi then “tore off a windshield wiper of the vehicle before jumping down and 'attacking' the man.” The feisty animal scratched and bit the hiker before he was able to get back inside his vehicle. Deputies say the hiker received a rabies vaccine at a nearby hospital before traveling back to his Tucson home.
