3rd annual quartz peak trek

This is in the preliminary planning stage.... But was thinking about a 3rd trip up to quartz peak.

Obviously it wouldnt be for several month, until the weather cools down.

For those not familiar, Quatrz peak is in the Estrella mountians and considered remote and difficult. TrailDEX has a good description of the trail.

Basically its 2,500 feet in less than 3 miles one way.

Im just planting seeds today to see if anything grows.

Definetly count me in. Sounds physically taxing, which is right up my ally.

I was going to go last year, but due to work, I could not, so I would like to be in on this one. I really would like to do this mountain, it sounds fun.

Glad to see all the interest...

We are looking at a Saturday - probably in October.

a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle is needed to get to the trail head.

There is a gas station/store out in estrella ranch that serves as a meeting place and parking for non-worthy vehicles.

I suggest everyone check both here and on http://www.arizonahikers.com/ ( events ) for updates... I will do my best to keep both forums updated.

In response to Cakewalk's reply:

I'm interested -- I live in Hidden Valley so this is in my stomping ground. How bad is the road? I have an S10 and I drive on dirt roads every day, but the S10 is a pretty crappy vehicle in really rough terrain. If there's deep sand or mud, it will never make it. The differential on that truck is a joke.

Your S-10 should be fine... The only real obstacle to the trailhead is some soft sandy spots on a bumpy dirt road. As long as you keep moving, you should be fine.

Okay. I might very well be interested, then. I'm used to slaloming through the occasional spot of sand. I'm also well aware that the roads out here turn rather ... deep ... after a good rain, having been stuck more times than I care to count or reflect upon.

ok.... Alright... The weather has cooled.... are we still in?

I, however have some concerns.... Like High blood pressure that I cant control, which results ( i guess ) in lightheadedness and a shorter endurance....

I wouldnt want anyone to have to carry me to the peak and all the way back down..... As aformentioned, it is a difficult hike, not a good place to have a problem. Im not really pulling out.... just open to discussion.

thoughts?

Cakewalk--Take care of yourself. Sorry to hear things are out of whack right now....

If you are still interested and anyone else, I am too. Sorry Sredfield, I had to take the AZ teachers professional and content knowledge tests all day yesterday. Maybe the weekend of the 22nd? Possibility?

If that doesn't work for those whom wish to go, I am flexible.

December 13 would work for me. If I cannot get the day off I'll just call in sick. This is one I really want to do and passed it up last year.
