Lost Dutchman State Park closed until November

Hey everyone!

Just a heads up about LDSP that we found out this morning when we drove out there at 6 AM to hike Siphon Draw. As we were driving up SR88 and approached the turnoff for LDSP, it stated that the park was closed, although the gate was open. We went in anyway and Jim went in to speak to the ranger. He stated that the park is closed until November (for maintenance) but let us in anyway and he was letting others in as well. It also looked like they were putting a new road in (more trailers........YOO HOO!) Anyway, if you head out that way, you may want to call ahead or find an alternate route. It's off season now but just keep it in mind for the fall.

No need to panic.

You can always park at jacobs crosscut. JC is located off the road to first water about a half mile from the highway. The turnoff is less than a mile past the Dutchman park. There is never a fee to park at JC and its almost just as close to siphon draw as the park (maybe an extra 1/2 mile to a mile of trail walking).

In response to matt gilbert's reply:

Hey Matt,

JC was our next choice of access to Siphon Draw TH but the ranger must have been in a particularly good mood that day. He let us in and didn't even charge us!

I might have to go again in a few weeks and feign ignorance to see if they waive the fee again :)

The rangers at the park are always really friendly. The first time I was at siphon draw we got to the park and realized we forgot a credit card to pay the fee. The ranger just asked us to pay what we could, all we had was $2 so we gave it to him and went on in.

The rangers at that station are also a very good source for local history, if you get them talking about it odds are you'll wind up hearing more than you wanted to know.

That's true - I've enjoyed talking with the Rangers there, too. I need to get out that way again soon!
