Somehow, we think HAZ members have some recipes that are even BETTER than those listed on that URL above. So share 'em. Thanks!

I'd love to claim that I use some secret recipe, but I'll fess up...Sam's Club. Sam's Club carries two kinds of GORP/Trail Mix. Both are Member's Mark...the Sam's Club brand name.
Mountain Trail Mix: Raisins, peanuts, M&Ms, Almonds, Cashews, peanut/canola oil and salt
Tropical Trail Mix: Cashews, dried papaya, dried pineapple, golden raisins, banana chips, almonds, walnuts, dried apricots, dried cranberries
They are both excellent! And, they don't skimp on the cashews.

I'm like CK1, no secret recipes here, just jump in the car and head over to Trader Joe's. They also have a tropical mix, among others. And, their dried cranberries and cherries are to die for! :P

Yup, Trader Joes for me too. They've got one called Confetti with almonds, pecans, cranberries, raisins and white chocolate chips. There are so many varieties now that it's like choosing a breakfast cereal. My mom used to make a good trail mix that is completely fat free and actually tasted good. I'll have to find the recipe.

When I was working at REI many moons ago I recall they had some 'gourmet' GORP/Trail Mix packages that I got rather addicted to. I'm not sure I remember the brand but I thik it was 'Sierra Crest.' They had all kinds of interesting variations. I was personally addicted to 'Willamete' - cashewes, peanuts, white chocolate chips, cranberries and almonds.
The white choc chips and cranberries were the main reason it was good - just a little different twist on the old rasins-and-M&Ms theme. Very nice.

Excuse me for not having anything GORP related but if anyone out there wants my recipe for granola bars just email me. These granola bars are absolutely better than anything out there and you can make 24-30 of these at a time. Based on weight these things are about twice as heavy as the store bought bars. I have two variations, vanilla and chocolate, determined by the flavor of the protien (or is it protein) powder you want to use. They take about half-hour to concoct and you don't bake 'em.
I'd post it here but I don't know if Joe allows granola bar recipes. If he does I will.
