Came accross this website just today and it's pretty informational. I didn't realize anything like this was in the talks yet. I'm up for Canada joining the U.S. along with Puerto Rico and some other commonwealths out there. Let me know what everyone on the forum thinks about this idea. I think that it could only strengthen the U.S. What do you think? Check out all the links on the page. http://www.geocities.com/us_int/

I dont think there really are any talks about that going on.
That link is a geocities website and the links from there are part of the same website-So, I dont think that this a big movement as such, just one persons rantings.

is that a buzzkill? Sorry.

Puerto Rico is part of the United States. I think technically a commonwealth. If you fly into San Juan, you see American flags along with the Puerto RIcan flag. The National Forest Service runs their rainforest park down there. But they dont pay US federal taxes in PR. Nice bennie I think. But, PR is split just about 50/50 about wanting to acquire statehood. Puerto RIco has had repeated general elections about the subject but continually declines the proposal by a narrow margin. I think they do a good job of speaking up for themselves.

Why just Canada ? Let's unify north and south america. The US is getting to be one of the smaller population bases now, after China, India and Europe, and their economies are exploding while ours stagnates, and we are just helping them by exporting the higher paid jobs. I would feel much more secure too, if the Canadians stopped openly welcoming terrorists, and we didn't have to police the millions of slave laborers crossing the Mexican border. Think of all that extra hiking territory !

Yes, I realize that Puerto Rico is technically a commonwealth and that the United States "owns" it. I was just talking about it becoming part of the Union as the 51st state. No buzz kill. It's cool though. Just thought it'd be interesting and it'd be nice to see happen someday. Imagine driving from Alaska to Washington and not having to cross international borders or living in Calgary and you're still in the U.S.

*barf!*

That site says we can lower taxes by expanding our country abroad because we can suddenly stop paying for embassies? That's a lame argument.

What about all the other stuff in that newly-annexed state that we'd have to start paying for? Like more damn government offices there? Roads? Etc etc?
