I wonder if they will factor in the millions that this will cost into the Fee Demo "costs" column.

Terrible. It sounds like the Boyds have friends in high places though so hopefully they will get a fair investigation and justice will be served.

I've been to the dunes to ride on several occasions thruout the years. I'm not surprised to see this kind of story come out. I had a run-in with a couple of these BLM Rangers 2 years ago for a minor infraction (no taillight on the ATV I was riding) and they treated it like I just committed the ultimate crime!

To put it nicely, we call them the "Glamis Gestapo".

From the story, it sounds like it was BLM agents that moved in for the kill, not employees of a private company. Your tax dollars at work. Further proof that the government is not the answer.

I have heard a similar problems with BLM rangers. Had a coworkers husband detained because he turned off on a trail to turn his truck and trailer around on BLM land. He didn't have the permit so they were going to arrest him. Seemed a little excessive.

I have had the same problem with MCSO up at Lake Pleasant. A sign showing that we needed a day use permit for the area we were in had been knocked down and couldn't be seen from the trail. A deputy knew this and was supposed to collecteveryoness drivers license that didn't have a permit. We then could go back to the pay station and have them returned when we paid. He disregarded this order and wrote tickets to everyone. The fine is up to a $1500.00 and 6 months in jail! He had written upwards of 30 tickets that day. On the way out we stopped, found the sign, took pictures and went to court. The judge didn't even want to see them. He already had seen 15 people ahead of me that morning and seen similar pictures. He dismissed the charges and advised me that this deputy would be removed from the Lake Pleasant area.

I found out later that that deputy had dated one of my bosses. She said he was huge jerk and had not business as a law enforcement officer. I would agree. I have never even had a speeding ticket and then this happens. I have never seen this deputy since.
