I'm gonna start this thread and use it in the future to give everyone here a heads up on the latest REI events, sales and news info. This forum has been such a boon to me and my personal hiking information knowledge advancement (HIKA) and I feel like since I have the inside track it's the least I can do to give something back. And, like REI or not, it is a great place to get information on the latest hiking gear information, techniques, and trends. The staff there has a tremendous wealth of information that I love to be a part of. I highly suggest that you all talk to an REI employee (any of us) about your outdoor passion. The people there really love thier jobs, the outdoors is most of their passion and greatest love. Even if you buy stuff solely online or at other retailers, the information that can be gained at REI is truly outstanding. I liked going there as a consumer, now I love going there as an employee, and all (or at least the vast majority) of the other employees feel the same, it is a great place to work and an even better place to shop, or at least spend time gleaning information. Please use the resources we provide; even if you won't spend money there it is a great place to pick up tid-bits.
On may 6th (or so, management has been less than forthecomming about the specific date, although a flier will by mailed out to all members) REI will be having it's anniversary sale. I've been checking out the product we have been sent for the sale and there will be some great deals on great equipment to be had. One need not be a member to take advantage of these sales
In June there will be another garage sale, and from the looks of the return and damaged bins there will be a huge amount of equipment. Some of it really cool stuff. (I'm not allowed to divulge the exact nature of the equipment so please don't ask. I'd love to tell you but that would put me in an awkward situation, especially since this is a public forum and there are others at REI who frequent this site). If you want to shop this sale you do have to be a member, if you're so inclined when you sign up for membership feel free to tell them that I sent you (bad as it may seem, we get points for recruiting you). Exact dates are not set in stone yet, as June approaches please call or stop in for more detailed information.
Here is a link to the REI clinics & events for the rest of the month. On the 30th they have a cool south mountain volunteer trail project that a lot of the staff will be attenting (possibly including me, I haven't determined yet if I can make it that day)
