Reavis Ranch is one of my favorites. Hellsgate is up there too, although I wouldn't totally consider them desert camping.

the superstitions would be a great choice.charlibois spring area is a good choice as the spring is very reliable and there are some petroglyphs in the area which i have been unable to find but the guide to the supes says they are there.youcan make a loop trip of it. start at peralta t.h. follow either the dutchmans all the way there or take bluff spr. to dutchmans [starts out climbing right away but it is more interesting than taking the dutchmans]then camp around the spr. area its well used so maybe camp a little west off the dutchmans.then next day head to the tarripen tr. and out.somewhere around 12 or 14 miles total. :D
