OK, I know this is wayyyyyy off the topic for this board, but I'm going to be out in Massachusetts (Worcester, to be exact) in early June, and have time for maybe a day hike or two. Is there a good online resource for checking out hikes in the area?

In response to Nan's reply:

You might try the asking in the Northeast section of backpacker.com. I'm not aware of anything comparable to HAZ. Anyway, you'll be reasonably close to the Berkshires, which have some good hikes. A little farther to the Long Trail and the AT.

I used to live out that way...there is a nice (short) hike through a jumble of rocks called Purgatory Chasm. Wouldn't take more than an hour or so and its a pretty area. Just off Rte 146 about 10-20 mi (can't remember!) south of Worcester...Purgatory Chasm exit is clearly marked.

I worked out in the Boston area a few years ago and didn't find anything near there that presented a challenge. It's hilly or flat land surrounded by lots of private property in that area. I would go up to New Hampshire and hike when I could instead, much better and far fewer people. In fact thats were a lot of people from Boston go to get away. I did hike up Mount Greylock which is in far western Massachusetts and there are several trails around there (Berkshires). My best suggestion would be go to a Massachusetts state park if you don't have the time to drive. I'm sure they've got a website.
