We've planned this E-W thru-hike for May 12-14, 2006

Camp near T/H 260 Thursday evening, hiking Friday(18 ), Saturday(16) & Sunday(16), finishing at the Pine T/H.

Beers/meal(s) & horseshoes at the Rimside Grill in Pine afterwards.

We all realize that they'll likely try and close the forest, but we're hoping that we can beat the planned Memorial Day closure deadline.

Please contact Steve D. @ luv2hikeinaz@cox.net for answers to specifics.

Please have your ducks in a row before committing, as there is obviously quite a shuttle involved

A lot of the highland trail runs thru the forest where the February fire went and I have seen that they close the areas where fires have gone thru till there isn't any danger of trees falling and so forth in the fire area. Some of the Rodeo Chediski fire areas are just now opening up. I would make sure that the trail is open thru the area that is if the forest stays open that long. My prediction is it may be closed around the Easter time frame if it keeps up like this.

In response to hikeaz's reply: Went by the Pine trailhead this last weekend on the way to the grand canyon and the trailhead and parking area is closed there is a sign that says fire danger on it. Just a heads up.

With the recent precip, and after speaking with the FS, it appears that this trip will be a "go".
