Where to car camp in the desert

We want to escape the semi-cold of Flagstaff for a weekend. Where is a good place that I can car camp down in the desert? It would be ideal if it was located near a fishable body of water. If possible a more remote camping area. We camped at Burnt Corral off Roosevelt lake last year and had to hear people blasting their car stereos the whole time. So If I could avoid paying forest service campsites that would be good.

It's hard to escape inconsiderate crowds of idiots when you're car-camping. But I may have come up with a good list anyway. Also, no matter where you go, it's still going to be a little chilly at nite. Here's the list...

1. Dead Horse Ranch State Park
2. Alamo Lake State Park
3. Burro Creek
4. Sheep's Crossing
5. Patagonia Lake State Park
6. Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge

All of these places should be listed on this site. These are the places I can think of that offer camping and meet your fishing requirement. They should all be considerably warmer than Flag. Hope this helps.

You can also camp at/near Roosevelt Lake and I would recommend the north side There are a couple of roads that will take you to the lake. You will need a high clearance and better yet a 4x4.
