MEET in the Denny’s parking lot, SW corner of I-17 and Bell Road, 8:00 AM to arrange car-pooling.

Elevation: 5,600’ - 7,185’
Join us in the cooler climes of Prescott for an opportunity to see geographical features of Precambrian granite, peregrine falcons and massive old alligator junipers along the Granite Mountain trail. BRING BINOCULARS! We will follow the trail to the peak of Granite Mountain. Here you will pick your favorite viewing spot and enjoy lunch. We loop back, make our way to the trailhead parking lot, and then head for the watering holes at Whiskey Row in historic downtown Prescott.
So,....if you enjoy a real rock concert, then this is a hike for you. As part of the Prescott National Forest, Granite Mountain Wilderness (appropriately named) is a picturesque area containing a little bit of everything that great Arizona hiking has to offer. The cooler temperatures and shady juniper forest make up a perfect combination for beating the heat. C’mon… you already know what HOME looks like!

I'll be missing your hike by one day, darn it. I am up with a bunch of mtn bikers at the Granite Basin group camp area this weekend, biking on Saturday and hiking on Sunday. Looks like we will have perfect weather!! Have a good hike and maybe we'll pass each other at some point on Saturday... I of course will not be on the trails in the Wilderness area on my bike.
