Hey all. Any info on wether the FR 300 "Rim Road" is closed due to fire restrictions from the Highway 87/260 (west) side? I tried to track down this info from the Coconino N.F. website with no luck.

I was up there a couple weekends ago and the road was open for about 18 miles, after that (right before that really cool overlook) the road was closed due to "killer trees". I swear, they had signs and caution tape and everything said "killer trees". I actually had to 'liberate' a piece of the caution tape because I was sure no one would believe that such a thing existed...

I'm not sure it will be closed this Friday. FR 300 also gives access to Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest- which is and will remain open. I spoke with FS personnel in the Black Mesa Ranger District today, and they said campgrounds and FS roads in AS will remain open (with total fire restriction, of course). It's kinda hard to determine where the dividing line is- if you look on the AS website- they list campgrounds right along Rim Road as being in the Black Mesa district, including Woods Canyon Lake, Spillway, Aspen, Rim, Crook, as well as Chevelon Canyon and Crossing (which apparently are not affected by the Potato Fire either).

Perhaps the "upper 300" from the 87 side will be closed- however you may still be able to access 169 and 169A and other FS roads in the area from the south- might not do much for determing the condition of your campsite, but it may give you someplace else to go this weekend.

My spot is about 5 miles in from 87/260. I'm sure the gate will be closed. Thanks for the info!

*SIGH* I always hate this time of year.......forest closures and fire restrictions. Looks like my weekend plans are going to change. Apache Sitgreaves is looking pretty good at this point!

Well I'm going to run up there tomorrow to get a look before the closure. Nice excuse to get out of town because of the temp. 113?

The news is forecasting some rain in southern and eastern Az by this weekend. Lets hope it starts to develop up north very soon. Its getting to be that time of year. The cicadas are buzzing around my place.
