Apache-Sitgreaves--some closures

Most people are probably aware of this already, but if not: Yesterday some limited closures due to fire danger were implemented on the Apache-Sitgreaves forest. These include Mt. Baldy, Pole Knoll and all the trails leading out of Greer, plus some areas around Alpine and further south (check with Alpine RD). There are some closures on the western end of the forest as well, check with Black Mesa RD or Lakeside RD.

The folowing trails are STILL OPEN for the time being: On the Springerville RD: the new Overland Trail, the new Apache Vista Trail, South Fork Trail, Murray Basin Trails, Correjo Crossing (not a well-known one), Escudilla Mtn.

On the Alpine District I'd suggest calling for updates on closure of Hwy. 191 due to Beaverhead Fire mop-up. Also there are some closed trails. Phone # is: 928-339-4384.

Yeah I saw this today and it has changed my 4th of July plans for the 2nd time in 3 days.

I was going to go to the North Rim of the GCNP, until Tuesday that is.

Then I was going to go to the White Mtns and Hike Baldy.

Now... I'm getting away from the fires and going to Colorado. Added afew days to the vacation and am bringing the bikes too.

I was hiking in CO all last week. There was quite a bit of haze from the AZ fires. The summer thunderstorm pattern is just setting up. Have a good time and avoid the lightning!
