I've seen several pics of Horse Shoe Bend, and in one of them, it looks as if, you can hike up to the plateau and into the crevice that is there, but I have not seen any pics or info. support such a thing. It kinda looks like a cave. Does anyone know if you can hike into it or not?

Are you talking about the stuff on the other side of the Canyon? Or the features down in Nine Mile Draw?

K, it's hard to explain, it's the that piece that sticks out, there is that plateau. So, if you take a boat around the bend, hike up to the plateau, hike across it to the huge piece that sticks out, there is a big crack in that, you can't see it from all views, but it is there.

Yes there is a way to hike in and climb on top of the Plateau in the middle of the horseshoe. I had some friends go to do it one weekend, but they got turned back at the TH from 40-50+ MPH winds

In response to cficken's reply:
The easiest way to get there might be Spencer's Trail up from Lee's. There's a real dilapidated trail that runs from the top of Spencer's out to the dam site. I think it'd be easy enough, I think, to take a quick jaunt from that trail out to The Plug. No boat required. I'm sure its possible to climb that crack on the S side of The Plug, I've just never done it. Thought about it many times, but always crossing the river (since I don't have a boat) has been the biggest issue.

So, is it just a big crack? Or can you explore it? Hike into it?

I saw the Goosenecks for the first time in May, I was on my way to Grand Gulch, getting ready to drive up the Moki Dugway. There was a group of kayakers and rafters on a leisurely float down there, and the weather was pretty nice as I recall. I couldn't decide if I wanted to be with them more than I wanted to backpack Grand Gulch! I haven't seen Horseshoe Bend yet, though.
