I have a friend who's lived in AZ for 3 years but never seen anything outside the desert...
He's moving soon and I want to show him what AZ has to offer. We're hiking somewhere Sunday and I want to take him somewhere beautiful, with pines, and water... but a fairly easy hike that's within 2-3 hours of Phoenix... I need ideas ASAP! thanks!

You could do a partial
Willow Valley
or definitely easy would be
Kinder Crossing

Horton Creek or See Canyon.

youre in Mesa so its easy to take the Beeline up to the Mazatzal divide (where the sign on road says Sycamore Creek) and drive to
this trail. Its a nice little loop. FR 201 is doable with a pickup (or rental!)

You could try this, maybe not all the way to the falls right now, as it's hot, but that area is pretty:

Try Woods Canyon Trail around the lake. Easy access off Hwy 260, 2.5 hrs from Mesa. Pines, lake, and great views from atop the rim on the drive in/out.
