Hermit trail in November

I'm planning on hiking Bright Angel to Hermit in November (shortly before Thanksgiving) and have some concern about ice at the top of Hermit trail. My party will tend toward the less experienced side. Any insight into what worst case conditions could be like?

I think it's possible to run into ice in November, but chances are against it. But in any case, I would keep an eye on the weather for a few weeks leading up to your trip. Also, a call to the Backcountry Office wouldn't hurt to check trail conditions.
If there is ice, trekking poles do wonders, and a $15 investment in a pair of Yaktrax goes a long way. I wouldn't lose sleep over it though.

If you plan on hiking UP the Hermit the ice issue is mitigated - the poor traction issues manifest themselves more when headed DOWN. I would also add that I'd bet against there being ANY ice on EITHER trail in November. Oh, and don't worry......, the mule"leavins" will melt the snow at the top of the B.A..
November is a terrific month to be in the Canyon - Have fun!
