Humphrey's Summit Trail - July 4th

I've done this myself few other years and the trail is fairly busy on July 4th. I was planning on driving up in the morning say 5:30-6a.
This puts us on the peak noonish and back down to the trailhead in time to eat before heading back. The temperature up there is
about 70 degrees while everyone in the valley is in 110 degree heat. Anyone else with spare time on the 4th?

Going from 1000' elevation to 12,600' in one day is maore than my body can take.
I plan on doing this hike with an overnight, possibly on the mountain.
I know we are not allowed to camp above the treeline, but do you know any good spots to camp on the mountain?
My plan is to do the B24 Bomber site then go up a little further and camp overnight before hitting the peak the next day.
Cheers

Madfish,

I'm more of a hiker than a camper so I don't know where to best set up camp on Humphrey's.
There's alot of wooded area there so I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem finding a nice spot
below the tree line. I plan on visiting the bomber site sometime too but I'm not sure when.

Here are where the available, free F/S overnight (or longer) campsites reside:
Take the Snowbowl Road up to Friedlein Road (FR 522)and turn Right.. there are approx 14 number posted, primitive campsites down/off this Forest Road... I was told that #5 is a good site (Also, I heard second hand a year ago that #10-14 were/are closed fm 5/1-8/31);

My mom & I are going to do this hike on June 30th. We'll be coming up from Phoenix on Friday afternoon, and hiking early on Saturday. If anyone's interested, let me know. We'll have 2 extra seats in the car (@ this point), and I'm sure she won't have any problem w/ taking anyone to the trailhead. Probably hit the B-24 crash site. Anyone want to get dusted on the trail by a 60-year-old lady?

My mom backed-out of doing this hike next weekend. I'm game for the 4th, however.

The meeting point is looking like I17 & Bell. What's a good parking area there?

I think I have a plan. Once the outbox releases sends the PM messages we'll know.

We have been using the Denny's/Fry's lot on the SWC I-17/Bell for over 8 years with nary an issue. Big lot, so it poses no imposition to the businesses.

Thanks for the info Kurt. We had already made plans but I checked out the location on the way back and
it is perfect. The hike was great. Almost no traffic and we all made the summit.
