How much does it weigh? Does it come with a pole? Why do you call it a fairweather shelter? (In fair weather I sleep under the stars!) I have a free-standing solo tent I like very much that weighs a little over 3 lbs. Am looking for a tarp set-up, though, that would be a lot lighter, for emergencies. For when I've left the tent at home and I plan to sleep under the stars but there is a rain shower. I have a bivy sack but I don't like it--too hot and confining.

Anyway, please let me know about the weight and the pole.

If I may speak for Mike...
All tarps would be considered "fairweather" (no pun intended) meaning that they will keep you dry in all of but the most foul weather (think 40 days and nights of rain type of stuff) but even the most skilled tarp-ers will stay dry. As for the pole, the tarp is set up using your own trekking poles, thus eliminating then need to carry the extra weight for a pole. I believe the weight is around 7-8 oz, but I'm not sure. Mike's on a cruise so that lazy bum will be back in a week or so....

I bet it was used for drinks in the Caribbean.......

the weight is including stuff sack, guylines, and seam sealed tarp. 7 ounces total. I have a couple of the Gray tarps here for $60 shipped.
