Wilson Mountain Sumit Question

So I have been up Wilson 3 times within the past 2 weeks, none of which by way of the snow covered trail up the sumit. I always seem to get bumped off and sumit up some really steep way. So here is my question and please forgive my lack of specifics. I would say about 3/4 of the way up the final switchbacks the trail begins to get rather snow covered, there is a section where it appears the switchbacks stop and the trail heads up the west end of the mountain (vearing to the right) or there are also footprints heading straight up (south). So on Sunday I took both ways... I went up first and caught fine views of Sedona and whatnot, but I feel like I am missing something. So I found my way back to the trail and took it to the right (which would make sense) and followed the footprints for a while until they stopped at a rivine/rock wash.... should I have went up the rock wash? where does the trail go? any help?

Joe has posted a GPS track of the Wilson Mountain Trail. If you look at it you might have your answer. If you have a GPS, you can follow it.
PBAEnzig has posted a GPS track of Wilson Mountain North.

Unfortunately it just goes to the popular Sedona overlook.
Amazingly (albeit unfortunate) the Brins Fire is already plotted on terrain map

Not sure what's considered the actual "summit". Looks like 6662, that just spell trouble
Personally I'd just log it into the GPS and go. If you don't have a GPS you could likely get an old bare essential one online for ten bucks.

oops! wrong mountain
it's 7122, only a quarter mile from the signed turn on top
guess you've already been to the top too, no clue on what you're asking

I really don't have a clue but I think the 8mb's it comes with is enough for general routes. I think the card is for uploading memory hogging maps.
Should have come with MapSource
You just download the .gdb format
Load it into MapSource
Then upload to GPS Unit
plenty of people here use them and will hopefully correct the run down
