hello,
I'm new to the site, and looking for advice on which hike to do with a family member coming in from out of state. He tends to think Arizona is "ugly" and i want to show him how beautiful it can be. i am wanting to hike Piestewa Peak (which i haven't done before) or Camelback summit trail (which I have done)- any suggestions on which one would show off our state more?
Thanks!

I prefer the view more from Camelback, but that's just my opinion

If that's the choice...
Camelback via Echo Canyon is hands down my preference over Piestewa
If you hike with Al, it's Pea-estewa

If you want to show him something other than smog and sprawl, consider taking him away from the city

kbsantini- Here is a good choice in NE Scottsdale, a little further from the city smog & sprawl, that is a sure winner:
http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=1322 (Review the recent "triplogs" for more details). I suggest you
start at the recommended Horseshoe Trail/TH per this hike write-up, take the Horsehoe Tr
to the
Gateway Tr
to the Windgate Tr
to Wingate Pass (for lunch), then back the way you came.
Our Spring flower season should now be great on this trail section! This hike is a 3.9ml one way to Wingate Pass
which is one of the highlights of this hike, a great spot for a lunch break with a grand view of the Four Peaks
Wilderness to the East, but you two can hike less mileage and still have a very enjoyable visit to this area.

Camelback is a bit more sceneic than Squaw Peak although parking is easier at Squaw than Echo canyon.
However, you can almost escape crowds and go on the Circumfrence trail to the sumit trail at Squaw peak: its a longer hike and shows off a little more than the sumit trail will
If you really want to show off AZ, take him north and show him where the desert meets the forrest!
