Planning on going out to Four Peaks this week. What do I need to know? What are the best trails?

Here is my recommendation starting out of the Four Peaks "Lone Pine TH" that does not receive much action, but is a great choice: http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=1255 (Piegon Springs LOOP Hike..and..if you want to add a little longer loop* with more challenge and scenic enjoyment, you can start from the same TH on Browns Trail to Amethyst Tr to Four Peaks Tr to Piegon Tr to FS 648 to your beginning TH).

NOTE: * = See my triplog dated 9/28/07 for more details & trail conditions on this longer 7.0ml loop hike;

As far as "need to know", I would say that anything more than few miles away from the Lone Pine TH gets dicey in terms of being able to follow a trail. All the trails up near that TH are pretty reliable. Once you get outside a certain radius (or on a trail that can be accessed via a different TH), be careful. I think the Lone Pine Fire in '96 did some damage that is responsible for this. The Pigeon Spring Loop that Grasshopper mentioned is nice, and no problems in terms of following the trail.
