Downloading GPS Routes from HAZ--Where?

From exactly where on a page do I click to download a GPS route? Also, just in case I'm slower than most, how exactly do I download a file of this type? Specifically, I'd like to download a route or track for the "Humphreys via Inner Basin, AZ."

Thanks!

Ken

Hi Ken,

First you have to upload a route. It's a pretty generous ratio at 1 to All. Though the first one needs to be unique or I'll delete it.

To download a route, you'd go view the route on map. While viewing the map, scroll down the profile-window on the upper-left. You'll see nine different formats.

It depends on the software you use. Garmin users generally use Mapsource which would be GDB.

Anybody that's serious about mapping uses TOPO!

Ours came pre-loaded with some kind of map, not sure what it's called. I did manage to download waypoints from the GEOCaching site and that work the way I anticipated it. Do I have to buy Mapsource software first to be able to use this feature.

Either need to know the name of your software or what format did you download from GEOTrash?

I don't think you have to buy anything. Nonot knows more on this and generally posts late at night.

Geo Caching (or GeoTrash :D ) site says it can only download to Garmin GPS units.....So who knows. Maybe Nonot will respond later. Thanks!

It likely has the basemap pre-loaded. I looked up your manual. The manual says to use the serial cable with mapsource. Did your unit come with a mapsource CD.

It will accept maps up to 8MB.

Mapsource can use many formats, including gdb and gpx among others.

How did you upload the waypoints to your GPS? Uploading tracks is probably about the same.

Yes, it came with the serial cable, but no Mapsource CD.

As for downloading the waypoints from the GeoCaching site, I had to install a Garmin Communicator Plugin. Then I was able to select the "Send to GPS" button, so that it would create that waypoint on my GPS unit.

I have no idea what format my unit uses.

Hmm, I'd guess that you should try using mapsend20, there are a few other freeware programs out there as well that may work.

The "Mapsource" CD is usually just the Trip & Waypoint Manager, which is included with any Garmin you buy. Additional Mapsource products can be purchases, but can be pricey and not always worth it. The GPX format should work with the Trip & Waypoint Manager software.

Thanks. I will try to download that format to my Garmin and see what happens.
