Just wondering if anyone's been there lately and know if its open. The Tonto Forest service is not open on Saturdays so I can't talk to them..

Was it recently closed? I wasn't aware that it was ever closed aside from years ago during the wildfires.

I was just being cautious, I've driven to the 143 just be let down seeing it closed and I live in Avondale! Of course that was a few years ago.
It is open and was a great hike to the top of Browns Peak. Had the most scary encounter with a Rattlesnake near the chute..came within 2 feet face to face(literally) with it by accident

Glad you made it out safe, that's one place I could do without seeing a snake!
Yeah it's a bummer when they close it off. If you have 4x4 you can get in through the rolls but it's a mess of route finding. You may also be able to get in via Mesquite Wash but it looks like a monster from the SE turnoff!
