This is the trail off of the Bush Hwy by the Blue Point rec area that is part of the Great Western Trail. It's essentially FR10 according to the Tonto map. I'm planning to hit this early and be done hiking by noon so I can take my kids to see the new Star Wars movie in the afternoon. It will just be an out and back, length dependant on how far I decide to go. Anyone's welcome who wants to brave the heat.

Get the combination to the lock on the gate from the USFS and just drive it. You will see more and be out before it gets to hot. Have fun but don't expect to see anyone else up this canyon this time of year. Take plenty of water in case your vehicle gets stuck in the sand and you have to walk out.

I think I'll just stick to doing it as a quick morning hike.

I did this recently in a stock Jeep Liberty with slightly larger tires. Seriously NOT recommended :sl: You need ground clearance :)

Stiller,
Should be a great hike! This is actually an old Military Trail. The views are fantastic.

Tell me you put the skid plates on first. :( Stiller likes bending skid plates.

Sure, gaiters are to prevent snake bites to but I wouldn't want to test them! :sl:

Nope. Thankfully it has some large crossmembers under the tranny and oil pan. I hit bottom 5 times, really hard :scared: Amazingly I didn't break anything and made it through without a hitch aside from one spot on a large hill we had to climb. Needed more gas the 2nd time around.
