Garmin GPS data editing/organizing question

OK, maybe a lot of people can't help me, but hopefully SOMEBODY can! I've been having an ongoing frustration with my Garmin for months now.
I import data from my Garmin Colorado 400t into Garmin Roadtrip. Sometimes however I get duplicates (duplicate waypoints, duplicate tracks, etc.). I delete them from My Collection, and then they show up again after syncing with my GPS. No matter how hard I try, I can't keep that thing organized and clean.
As a last resort I tried to figure out a way to just erase all data on the Garmin, so that I could fix everything in the Roadtrip program and then export it back into the Garmin...but I couldn't figure out how to erase all data, either. Apparently it's saving it in some fashion that gets exported to GPX when plugged in so that Roadtrip can read it.
I thought I could just give up on Roadtrip and use another program I found (TrailRunner...I'm using a Mac), but it just seems pretty cumbersome and not as featured.
Any help out there in HAZ-land would be greatly appreciated! :bigth:

Are the duplicate on the receiver or the software?

it's not consistent. there are duplicates on both, but some of the routes in Roadtrip don't end up on the Garmin after doing a "Send".

I hope you're keeping an eye on the software updates. The Colorado is relatively new and Garmin releases updates often.

Yeah, I have been. I'm running the latest version, 2.0.1, now.

After uploading the data to your computer you need to delete it from the GPS.

I've tried that. On the Colorado it is extremely time consuming to delete out individually a bunch of waypoints, which is one of the things it's duplicating. I did this though because I thought at one time that was the only way to get this problem solved. But just like before, over a few syncs it started duplicating items again...it would be the same item with " 001" after the name.

Yes, it sure is. My favorite trick is to download everything, totally clear the unit, delete stuff on the PC, then upload the keepers back onto the unit. I must confess, though, that I tend to let waypoints accumulate long enough to be bothersome.

Do you have a Colorado? How do you totally clear the unit of data (without deleting items one by one)?

Sorry, I have only a GPSMap 60CS. I'm sure the Colorado has a "clear everything", too. On my unit, if you press "menu" while on the "Tracks", "Routes", or "Waypoints" pages, a dialog box comes up with an option to clear everything in that category.

This is what I do on my Garmin Legend. I turn off tracking (Tracks and Routes), then go to the trip page that tells me all my trip info like mileage traveled, time stopped, time traveled, etc and in the menu there is an option to reset the data. In the reset data menu you can choose what data you want to reset (erase). I usually erase everything.
That Colorado looks like a really nice GPS! I googled it after reading this thread. Where did you buy it? The prices I saw were pretty high.
