Shortcut by Swift semi-truck driver goes wrong
By Alexis Bechman
May 7, 2010
Although Swift was stamped all over the truck, the driver of a semi carrying recycled paper wasn’t so quick on the uptake Saturday after following his GPS down Fossil Creek Road.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, the driver said he was heading east out of Strawberry and thought the narrow, winding road was a shortcut.
After following his GPS a mile in, the 53’ rig was unable to cut a tight corner and the trailer fell into a ditch, while the cab stayed on the roadway.
The driver waited out the night until help arrived Sunday morning.
Carl’s Towing hauled the truck out, and the driver was cited for blocking a roadway, said Larry Vogel, district resource staff at the Payson Ranger District. Vogel could not definitively say where the driver was coming from or where he was heading. Fossil Creek Road eventually connects with Highway 260 to the north and through several connecting roads, Interstate 17 to the southwest.
I'm glad most truckers aren't so bone-headed.Dschur wrote:... and thought the narrow, winding road was a shortcut.
