Is there ever anybody who is not an "experienced hiker" in these stories?
Authorities began a search and rescue for a hiker with diabetes Friday morning.

The 31-year-old male hiker was expected to return home Thursday night, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

His wife and other family members began to search for him and found his vehicle at First Water Trail in the Superstition Mountain wilderness area.

The man is an experienced hiker and took all of his necessary diabetes medications with him for the hike, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Lake patrol and helicopter units were assisting with the search.
I certainly hope he's ok. It was a little chilly out there last night.

update from AZCentral as the search continues:
Authorities said they know he is alive, possibly with a broken leg, because the man has had some sort of communication with family members.

I hope he's alright. I'm interested to hear the details, hopefully he left a decent itinerary behind.

Visually located, but rescue is ongoing.
The man is awake, able to communicate and may have a broken wrist and injured leg.

Authorities are in the process of dropping a rescue person into the heavy terrain to hike over to the injured man, who will then be placed into a rescue basket and lifted out.

That sounds promising. Injury due to a fall is one of my biggest fears in the backcountry, along with water crossing mishaps and lightning.

Fox news just showed him being rescued. They airlifted him out and they showed him on the ground and they are waiting for the ambulance to take him out...

Says he had fallen about 20 feet. Screengrabs from the video show him in a very rough-looking spot.

Yikes! That doesn't look like the sort of place you'd want to fall into. Eee. Glad to hear he's out alright.

Looks like he may have been in West Boulder Canyon somewhere, tough to tell though.

I was wondering where he was. Could be the West side of "East Boulder Canyon" near Freemont Saddle too.
