I've got an assignment to photograph these bodies of water. I'm not quite sure what hikes these would be on.
I'm hoping you guys could offer a little help.

SWIMMING HOLES
12. “The Pools”
13. “The Box”
14. “The Crack”

Also East Chevelon Creek.

12. “The Pools” could be anywhere, perhaps in Pine Canyon http://hikearizona.com/phoZOOM.php?ZIP=4400 however it may be on fire right now (look up Pine Canyon Loop)
13. “The Box” could be anywhere too, perhaps http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=29
14. “The Crack” probably the Bell Trail http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=7

As far as I know, the Crack is in Sabino Canyon, easy access, very well-known by anyone who grew up in Tucson. East Chevelon Pools is probably that area of many pools above Chevelon Crossing and below Chevelon Lake. No trail to speak of, and access is difficult for the average person/non-hiker/non-map-reader/non-dirt-road-driver. The people at the ranger district don't even know where it is! I'd leave it alone as far as writing about it. (I write, too, but I do leave some things alone.)

id bet the BOX is on Christopher Creek
the Crack is the diving board at Wet Beaver
the Pools are likely as Joe stated. there is a sign there that says "the pools" i think..
Pivot Rock canyon is near Happy Jack, just south of there. Look for Toms Creek and Clover Creek and Pivot Rock Campground
Flowing Springs is 5 miles n. of Payson on the 87

Thanks for the help. The vague names I have don't help much. I just asked for some more info and should hopefully get that soon so I can start pin pointing this locations.
I definitely think the rock is referring to bell Trail. The Box is probably going to be Christopher creek. Chevelon is the creek that leads up to the lake.

These are supposed to be easy day hikes, close to PHX, with water so it makes it a little easier to narrow down. Nothing called "the crack" that requires 3 days of canyoneering.

Chevelon is 13 miles of dirt road from near Heber. Chevelon is written up on here:
http://www.hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=782

You can bushwhack in there and swim but there is no official trail. It is pretty much bushwhacking, and it ought to stay that way, IMO. I am not in favor of publicizing it, as it is not easy to get to, anyway, so why tell people from Phx to go there when there are so many closer places that are easier to get to, that have trails, and that already are well-known. Like, how about Fossil Creek? Lots closer to Phx than Chevelon.

I just take the pics, I don't choose the locations. Either way people are going to hike there. I don't think it's just for you to enjoy.

when you say "East" Chevelon, do you mean the small and shallow East Fork or just the main canyon, since there is a "West" Chevelon?

to get to Chevelon an easy route is the 1.3 mile Telephone Ridge trail. I do some fishing there on occasion.

All I got was Chevelon creek. I assume it's the main creek hike posted here on AZ hiking.

None of those names (box, pools, crack) come up in a search in AZ National Geographic Topo.

The "pools" could be Romero Pools, too...

EDIT: Never mind, you mentioned they were near Phoenix...

Sounds a lot like looking for Sycamore Creek/Canyon or that great little hotel ... the Anasazi Inn. :sl:

There might be five or more places with the same name ... all in Arizona. Good luck finding the actual one that the editors were hoping for.

Maybe tewa is right, because Chevelon Canyon is FORTY MILES LONG, and as he said, there are probably some easier access points.

There's also the Gila Box, near Safford.
