Has anyone done any hiking in RMNP? What would you recommend?
Also, any recommendations for hikes in northwestern New Mexico on the way there?
Thanks!

I'd recommend going almost anywhere else in CO except RMNP. On the way up from NM, I'd go for the Sangre de Cristos or the southern San Juans.

I've driven through RMNP, and did an overnighter in a place called the Missouri Lakes, in the Holy Cross Wilderness about 3-4 years ago. Enjoyed both places

NW NM includes such great areas as Chaco Canyon, Bisti/Nez-Na-Din Wilderness, the Pueblitos, Mt. Taylor, the Malpais, Zuni Mountains, etc. etc. etc...

FWIW, There is one trail in Colorado that is on my "list". It would be best to be done in August or maybe late July I think.. I discovered it on Google Earth but then they updated there imagery in the middle of winter and now it just shows the snow.. anyhow Google Earth still shows plenty of panoramio photos scattered around that area.. It is an area called the Ice Lake Basin about seven miles due west of Silverton.. I actually drove up to the trail head a few years ago but I couldnt hike it because we were on a trip up to Canada. The trail head is at 37.807292 -107.77663 (using Traildex MYTOPO).. I am definately going to hike that trail some day.. maybe even do an overnight up there.

I'd skip Rocky Mt, and go with places like the Sangres in CO, and NM. In NW New Mex, I say try Mt Taylor for a relaxing afternoon stroll. Its very scenic. I did a write up last year. See the pics.

Little known Latir Peak Wilderness northern New Mexico. Prolly not as spectacular as some but has the lakes, Alpine terrain and has I think three of New Mexico's higher peaks in it's small area.

BTW, (FWIW), There is one slot open still for a week long epic BP trek through the San Juans in Colorado at ABC in Late July.. This would be an awesome Colorado trip. Anyhow here is the link:
