Overnight At Wilderness of Rocks... July 25-26

Want to do a backpacking trip relatively close to Tucson that will get me up out of the heat. I think I've settled on doing a loop from Marshall Gulch through the Wilderness of Rocks and up to the Peak (Lemmon), possible with a car shuttle and possibly with a hike back to the car at Marshall. In July, it's pretty likely that we'll have to contend with a storm - and there's a possibility of some scary lightening. However, I'm not going to let that scare me away... Especially if we try to keep hiking mostly to the morning hours, we should have no trouble finding a safe area to hole up for the afternoon (I'll just be sure to bring a good rain jacket ;) )

I'm posting this on the ABC site as well, but thought I'd throw it out there for anyone 'round here who's looking for an adventure or an escape from the heat!

Alright, getting closer - any more takers? I think it's gonna be a fun time up on the mountain.

Oh that's a nice little loop! Not much more you can ask for in the Catalina's IMO!

I'd like to see a little of this area to see what I'm getting myself into before the Oct death march. :)

Well, the section of Lemmon Trail from Wilderness of Rocks up is a bit easier than before it! :D I'd like to go (and I just did this a couple weeks ago), I'll have to check my schedule though.

My plan was to do the death march...just break it up a little. :) Still a death march because I'll have more weight than a daypack. ;)

Yeah, if you want to get a really good idea of what you're in for with the Death March, we could hike down to Romero Saddle then up to the peak - that's a fun section of trail. Very scenic. Not as rough as some parts of the trail, but definitely a work out with a pack (of course, we could always drop our packs at the junction, too).

Alright, came back from my training in San Francisco with what's shaping up to be a head cold. Hopefully will be cleared up enough by this weekend not to get in the way, though. Afterall, if you're going to be miserable, might as well be hiking, too. So I'm still listing this one as a go.

I'm planning on heading up on Friday night and camping - probably off the Control Road somewhere free. Anyone interested in coming could either meet up somewhere at the base of the mt. that night, or we could meet at the th on Sat. am...

Walk in about 200m on the Crystal Spring trail from the Control Rd and there's a great spot!
