I'm taking the girlfriend up to flag next weekend for a little getaway... Im not to familiar with any hikes around there, i looked on trail dex but couldnt filter through all the hikes. Was hoping someone may be able to tell me the hike that mathces my wants...

Looking for a short hike, 2-3 miles with a scenic end point (spot by a creek, river, nice vista etc) where we can enjoy a little lunch and some SOLITUDE. Key word there...

any ideas, or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Couldn't filter through all the hikes?
Flagstaff + Under 4 Miles + Perennial Creek = 0

Unless there's an overnight deluge I think you'll need to change the game plan to solitude in the woods ;)

"awesome" and "kinda secret" can only be used in the same sentence when referring to places that are typically not anywhere close to A. Phoenix, B. Tucson, C. Flagstaff, D. Sedona, E. Prescott, etc.

I would pick some trails that fits your criteria for distance and difficulty, then look at the triplogs and photosets to choose the one you want to do. You may find some solitude on some of them, but on a weekend, its not ever a guarantee.

Fossil Creek!
Nice vista? Park at the Oak Creek overlook and head cross-country to your own viewpoint along the rim. Don't know how well it'd work, but worth a try, right?

Water at the surface in the Flag area is scant unless the snow is melting or we have a heavy storm. Try the Rim or do a shorter trail in these parts. I might do the Sunset Trail for the scenery.

I think the land up there is alot more volcanic and the water doesn't stay on the surface.

I think most people are going to be heading north over the weekend to escape the heat, so finding solitude only 2 miles from the car might be tough.

The HAZmaster encodes his recommendations like Yoda, what this means is: I'd recommend you do upper Woods canyon. (http://www.hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=157)

A little water (although not flowing), decent vista, lovely aspens and what-not, almost definite solitude: Bismark Lake Trail. It's under the hike description for Hart Prairie. 2 miles round-trip, 200 feet of elevation gain. You easily make it longer with a little exploration (and there is plenty to explore!).
