Has anyone been to Ski Valley this summer? Are they running the lift and/or is the restaurant open? Is there music, as in past years? I called them but there is no answer.
Thanks in advance for any current beta.

Did they have enough snow to operate this year?

Restaurant was open as of Sunday.. the ski lift was open a few weeks ago.. we didn't walk past it this past weekend. I didn't hear any music, but that don't mean there wasn't any... and yes, I believe they were open this past year

Ski lift was open and operating this last weekend. There is a music festival in Summerhaven every weekend afternoon in a big tent on the main drag.

However, I was depressed to see that the Mt. Lemmon Cafe (formerly "the pie place) wasn't just closed - it's GONE. Building and patio completely removed from the site. :lone:

So sad. In the words of Eric Cartman "No...more...pie...."

The only music I remember @ Ski Valley was during Oktoberfest in September. BTW there is frequently a DUI checkpoint on the highway during Oktoberfest!

They were not open everyday from December to March i believe they were open just after every snow storm for usually a couple weeks. They normally average 180 in of snow but i heard they only got around 80 this past year.

The cafe is gone? Wow that was good food.

The ski lifts are usually open everyday during the summer.

By the way a couple months ago at Mount Lemmon i saw a article talking about expanding the ski valley a little

Nothing could be worse for the ecology of the range...

In response to Jeff MacE:
as soon as the fire happened though, it was already set in motion.

I know right?

But also on the article it said something like we can't afford it now so it may be a while before the ski valley upgrades anything

We have another lift that's sitting in our parking lot, but we're waiting for Forest Service approval," he said.

Here is an older article like 2002 or 2004. I am not sure if they already did this.

That thing was still sitting up there under tarps last time I went up to the summit trailheads...

Expanding the ski area is a ridiculous idea. There's just not enough snow up there. There's been years where they haven't even opened.

Also - the music on the mountain is only on Sunday afternoons......

Yes, this is an old controversy. There isn't enough snow and the mtn. has enough eco problems without adding one more.

Wasn't that pie shop the only surviving building in the main part of Summerhaven after the fire? And they tore it down? Seems like it would have been a sort of historical artifact! Not to mention the good pie!

It may be an old controversy but that does not mean that it should not be embraced by the younger generations of conservation-minded Tucsonans once again for the good of our Catalinas.

also as we all know arizona snowbowl is going to go through a huge upgrade over the next few years and i even hear of a ski resort in williams arizona that is going to get way bigger also. So that means 3 of the 4 ski resorts in az are trying to get bigger or upgraded etc.
