Havasu Falls - Twin Flow Predictions

Months ago Brian brought back the first photo of Havasu Falls altered path into a single fall

Wendy's recent photo gives some hint on the speediness of travertine build up

So do you think the falls will build up enough foundation to go back to the glorious twin flow? If so, when?

I was amazed at how quickly the travertine is depositing on the improvements at the base of the falls. Although I don't really believe that the flow at Havasu will ever look like it did prior to the flooding, I am also constantly reminded of how much it changes from year to year. My own photos from my 5 trips down there show incredible changes, even without major flooding. I predict that something will come along, clog the now very narrow channel it is flowing through, travertine will cement it in and we'll have a larger, wider spray in a couple of years (if not the precise twin spouts it sported once).

Wasn't it a flood around the mid-90s that made it into the split flow to begin with? I thought it was a single channel before then, but the flood at that time caused the split?
I remember them having to rebuild the pools that time too, after they had been washed out by the flood.

I will put my money on January of 2016 as to when it will build up to the point that it will again split ;) .

Cool topic. I'm thinking 2012 when the Mayan calendar ends and we are all destroyed...

I seem to recall reading that in the old days it was called Bridal Veil Falls, because it used to fan out a bit. I think it changes a lot over the years.

Just came back from there and it is breathtaking. I never seen the twin-falls before but what I seen is probably one of the best places to visit.

I marked that it may never be the same but I dont mean that in a bad way. Especially for this area different doesn't mean worse, it could turn out better but who knows how long until theres a major difference

I think the twin flow will be more of a matter of total water. I looked at the top of the falls and given enough flow, not flood-stage, it would have to go over the old path. take a look at the comparison shot in my trip report

There was a photo in the recent highway magazine showing a twig. It had an inch of build up after a few months or a year, I forget which.

After 15 years of flows and floods, if this poll was still active, I think I'd click the "never" option.

But the triple fork of the 1930s? Maybe...

@chumley
The triple might be back, according to the photos posted on the Havasu tribe tourism page...
