Mine is obviously out and about, as opposed to those garage shots. ;)

In photosets, the HAZ Window Decal is a "Culture" label, right?

In response to jdsteele:
Is HAZ considered a culture?
If it does, it's not presently listed in our "culture" label section. As time goes on there should be more member pics show-up in pic sets displaying the HAZ car window decal that would qualify for a culture label listing if one were setup.

I can take care of that this evening, because it would be really interesting to see where they were showing up when plotted on a map.

In response to PageRob:
Now under culture---> HAZ window sticker
Description: The sharp HAZ decal or bumper sticker, in either original or die-cut versions, show that hikers somewhere away from the trailhead are members of the best hiking website in the southwest...and have good taste in car apparel too.
Rob- why limit to just this
"show that hikers somewhere away from the trailhead" ? HAZ decals or bumper stickers on member vehicles at the TH's should also be included as that is where they are going to reside most of the time when owners or others see them at this most logical location(when we have camera's in hand) and thus may decide then to take a pic for posting. No garages or carports allowed

Well yeah, the vehicle is at the trailhead, but the hikers themselves are out and about on the trail, away from the trailhead.
I thought that wasn't maybe worded the best, however...

Is there a "HAZ Sightings" forum anywhere? I saw a white car parked at the Frys in Gilbert tonight with a HAZ sticker on it, I almost left a "HAZ Rocks" note but didn't have a pen.

I like the HAZ Sightings idea.
I encountered a vehicle at a "trailhead" for an off-trail hike that Grasshopper and I posted this summer. The vehicle had print-outs from HAZ of the trail description and TrailDex maps and GPS tracks laying in the front seat. I left a note on the windshield "Happy Haz-ing! -Chumley", but nobody ever posted a triplog or photo set from that hike. It makes me wonder how many more people use the resources of the site but never participate by posting a log, photos, comments, etc. (Not to mention that they probably saw the note and thought I was some kind of crazy person!)

I think quite a few. I met a hiker a few months ago who recognized me from HAZ but said he only trolled the site for info. It looks like he's been posting brief triplogs since our meeting though!

I'm guessing that's the day you thought it was my car and then we met further down the road. I was definitely startled to have a stranger stop their vehicle on a forest road and know my name

. It's kind of weird at first-- especially when you're out in the middle of nowhere. Of course, its kind of funny when you do it to someone else

.

You should make one! It'd be like the "missed connections" section in the personals. It might also be helpful just in case you want to complain about a hiker you came across and want to first make sure they aren't on HAZ. I had a an incident recently with some dogs and I think the owner is on HAZ but not a regular poster but hikes with regulars (though I'm not sure) and now I really don't want to run into him again in case he read my triplog

Thankfully I've shaved since then!

I'll admit I'm one who used to troll HAZ for information... only 13 posts in a 14 month span over the 6 years I've been a member. Yet in that time I told literally hundreds of people about HAZ... and continue to... 4 in the last two days of hiking.
I'm sure Joe can attest to the vast numbers of
lurkers. But is it so bad?
Contrast Joe's openness to lurkers to the DesertUSA forums... when I first joined that one, I hadn't so much as gone 5 days before posting my first post and I found I was permanently blocked under the username and email I used. I guess I
was not contributing. Thank goodness Joe didn't kick me off HAZ way back in '04.
:thanx:
Of course some of you might be thinking... Hey Joe, it's not too late to kick him off!
:sorrry: I'll be good if you let me stay a while... :worthy:
