Don't forget my offer.
If it's below 90 - I'm thinking the Gateway Loop from 104th St at 3:15 on Wednesday, Oct 14th? Usually I go to the Club but now that it's desert hiking weather, I'd much rather be outside. Cry4AZ indicated she'd like to hike along in this area too.
I know you're a much faster hiker than me so maybe you could hike the loop or to Tom's Thumb once before I got there

. This time of year there's not much to photograph so I will do my best to keep up

.

Angela, I'm doing Gateway at around 8:30 AM next Wednesday with a couple that has not been to that area. I want to show them the Nature Center on Thompson Peak so they can explore all the trails in that area on there own. I'll wave to you....better yet I'll do a 'Wendy'.

That should be okay. I am still looking at 3:15ish or slightly earlier as I don't get done with work until 3.

Brian, I sure would rather come along and do the Gateway than sit at my desk. I've actually been thinking of getting some binoculars so I can check out the action on the McDowells... however, they'd have to be pretty powerful at that as the mountains appear closer than they are. Hey, I think I've seen that saying somewhere else before ;) . Have fun.

I hike the McDowell preserves pretty frequently. I usually start from the 128th St access and go up to the peak and back (6.44 miles). I usually hike all the way to the top without stopping, taking a small break at the top to get a quick snack in and then run/jog back down the trail. Trail has a nice steady incline until you get to the peak spur which is .25 miles of a much steeper incline, nice little push for the last part of the ascent. Usually takes me about 1:45 round trip. If anyone is ever up for going, I can usually be found starting around 1:00.
