November 21st-22nd
backpack into Canyon Creek and hang amongst the tall pines..

i know you guys, Ken, Tyler, Ryan, Eric, Todd, Alex, Josh, Wendy and other hangers want to get together for a group hammock hike!
i have set this up on the http://www.hammockforums.net since that site is dedicated to hangers, and i am not excluding tent users from coming, since HAZ members use all sorts of shelter, but for those who are interested in hammocks and have not yet tried one, this is maybe the best chance you'll ever get to see the variety of these amazing shelters up close. even if you are strictly a hanger this is still a great chance to check out numerous different approaches to staying warm-dry-snug-comfortable.

temps will be cold. mid to low twenties expected for this area during mid-November.
but, it is a short hike so you can pack all of your luxuries, really enjoy this trip and get your chance at a trophy trout or two (canyon creek has very large trout, i have seen 3 pound browns with my own eyes)

That sounds really fun! Unfortunately, I've got a trip in the Chiricahuas scheduled for that weekend You'll have to do a group Wendy for me...

Ill have to play it by ear, I dunno how my work schedule will be around then but Id really love to go!

I have been somewhat interested in hammocks so it would be great to see how you set them up and then be able test em all out, unfortunately I already have plans for a trip that weekend.



The 14th will be the start of the Leonid meteor showers so you guys shouldnt hide amongst the pines after dark, activity will increase dramatically after midnight. There will be what has been described as moderate background activity 14th - 21st with activity at its highest on the 17th after midnight.

Hmm.. I do have a pretty basic hammock set up, so it'd be nice to see some other more elaborate rigs.. Also id like to see what the underquilt is all about..


Will def need to update some gear before going tho, and im starting a new job next monday, so i dunno what the sched will be like.. but ill def see if i can make this happen.. been lookin for a trip like this for awhile..

I've been wanting to get into using a Hammock for a while but dang there is too many options. I'll keep an eye out for this. I'll be "that guy" in the tent.

Meteor showers, 3lb trout? Count me in! And nothing better than staying toasty warm in the 20's while hanging in luxurious comfort.

Looks like you have a big group Mike..lots of outofstaters. I'm still gonna try and get up there for the day, but can't do the w/e . I love that area although its been a long time since I've been there.
