Black River - Camping, Hiking, & Fishing Oct 16 - 18
Posted: Oct 13 2009 8:00 am
Well since I have gotten more than a few PM's inquiring about my TR's on the Black River and the fishing I do there I figured I would post this up as an event to see if anyone else is interested in joining me since my usual fishing buddy cant go.
October 16th, 17th & 18th I will be going to the Black River on the San Carlos reservation which means we must purchase special use permits for the Black River in Globe, permits are $20 a day and go from midnight to midnight. Permits cover everything while on the reservation, camping, fishing, hiking...so no state fishing license is needed. We will meet up in town at the Express stop where we can drain some stuff, fill up gas tanks, purchase permits, and any last minutes items you want. We will depart Globe and head east, where along the way somewhere we turn off on Indian Rt 8 towards Point of Pines. Once we reach Point of Pines we leave the pavement and onto a dirt road for the rest of the trip to our destination. From Globe to our destination at the Black River should be about a 2 hour drive.
Drivers will need a high clearance truck or SUV, 4wd not needed. Temp's are supposed to be in the high 70's during the day and mid to high 30's at night, no inclement weather is expected in the area. If you will be fishing and want opinion on what type of set up to bring, PM me. If you dont want to fish then feel free to hike and explore the area or just hang out at camp and enjoy the beauty of the area.
So costs for trip:
permit - $60 (fri, sat, sun)
gas - $60 or so RT, cheaper if you have passengers to split gas bill with
food - $20 or so
I can leave anytime on Friday so I am leaving it open until I see if anyone else is going and what their schedules are like. Also, I am located in Tucson if anyone from Tucson wishes to go. I have room for 1 person and their gear in my truck.
