National Park Series on PBS

I'm sure many of you have seen episodes of the National Park series on PBS. Anybody notice how mediocre to poor the video quality is? Compared to Blue Planet and the Planet Earth Series on Discovery, much of what I've seen is embarassingly bad. The park shots themsleves are great, but looks like they were taken with a home video camera circa 1990. While I've enjoyed the 3 episoded I've seen so far, very dissappointed the series was not shot in HD.

I've really enjoyed them, thus far. The "Southwestern Gems" thing they did was great, too...

I can hardly watch any other nature shows since I've purchased Planet Earth. The Planet Earth series is one of the most beautiful works of art I've ever seen. The shots they get rival the images captured by the best nature photographers, and that's quite a feat, considering how incredibly difficult it is to truly capture a moment on video as opposed to still frame. With the amazingly talented camera people they've got, they've taken nature shows from documentary to fine art. (I still enjoy the National Parks series...)

Agreed. I never purchased the dvds (mostly because I don't have a bluray player) but i have all 12 episodes in HD on my DVR ... hogging probably half my hard-drive space. But I refuse to delete them. I can watch them just about anytime, over and over again. (And I much prefer Sigourney's narration over David Attenborough)

I have to disagree about Attenborough vs. Sigourney. Attenborough's voice is absolutely perfect for the part.

I watched all of the episodes at least once, a couple of them twice. The video quality didn't bother me, but over and over again I thought how inadequate mere pictures are to describe such places. You have to be walking through it, surrounded by it, to really get the feeling.
