Start early.... After matt and i got our snowshoes and permits most of the morning had already passed so we had to turn around before we made the top (the huge layer of fresh snow didnt help either)

My advice, if you can't get the permit the day before and you don't want to do it without one, is don't worry about being out after dark on descent. I got down hours after sunset many times last winter. I have a head lamp, and the snow is reflective enough that the moon can illuminate your way. Plus, if you follow your tracks you can't get lost. Traffic on 180 and Snowbowl road is gone after 6pm, so you won't have to fight that either.

Hmm, I want to do this as well this winter and drove thru that same storm coming back from southern Utah this weekend but that's the weekend of the P F Chang's Marathon that my work signs me up for every winter... :?

All, my buddy Graeme is interested in doing this again (he did it last winter), and I told him that I knew of an upcoming trip. I'm not interested, but he's fairly serious about doing it again. If you permit me I will keep him up-to-date because he's not a current HAZ user (working on that).

looks like there is some snow on the mtn. just giving the page a bump to the top to see if anyone else wants to join. depending on how it goes, i would be up for staying the night up there and skiing snowbowl the next day or going up kendrick with the snowshoes.

I'd be up for either as well, I'm sure you'll just dig a hole in the snow and put your tarp over it. :) I'll opt for something warmer.

32 degrees in a snow cave, what is wrong with that?

I can think of lots of things wrong with that...but I'm game....I figure I'll be tired from skiing and just pass out. What were those sleeping bag pants called?

i think the plan is to leave sunday morning and get up to snowbowl around 9. this is a late start, but i am taking jhodlof advice and not worry about coming down in the dark. i figure between my gps, our tracks and maybe just going down the ski slopes it shouldn't be a problem. on the way up, i would like to go by the airplane crash depending on the snow. right now i am going to stay the night and either ski or snowshoe on monday in the inner basin or kendrick.
