Is the Peralta trailhead pretty safe to leave a car over night? Im doing an overnight on the supes ridgeline and dont feel like returning to the trailhead without my vehicle.

I have been to the trailhead twice and it always seems like the parking lot is full. I dont think anyone would try anything dumb at a popular trailhead. I know people have had some problems at the reavis trailhead. I wonder if the peralta trailhead is monitored by rangers like some of the trailheads are. I just got a 2005 Xterra so im a little iffy on leavin my new baby out on her own.

I know the feeling....wondering if your car will be OK when you get back. I"ve got a truck with combo code on outside of door so I don't need my keys to get in, but take my keys with me (don't like the noise they make or weight) but if it is broken into at least there is a better chance they won't drive it away.

It's not as bad as the Bell Trailhead however the broken glass tells the story. I see it nearly every year. In the old days you could use Carney or Massacre. The odds are more in your favor off the beaten path. However both those trailheads have been closed. If I went on a multiple day trip in the western Superstitions I'd rather be dropped off, picked up or park at LDSP.

I do overnights all the time from peralta, never had any problems. But the rangers have told me not to leave a car overnight at first water.

the 24th street trailhead at south mountain has quite a few break-ins, too. i'm always paranoid hiking mormon trail, and never leave anything in my car there. 46th street at beverly canyon trailhead seems a lot safer.

To discourage someone from breaking in to your vehicle leave what appears to be a dirty diaper rolled up on the dash.
This will work any time of the year but especially in the heat of the summer! :scared:

Leave an empty nursing bottle on the front right seat and it will enhance the effect. :o

Which is really disturbing with that house overlooking the lot with it's HUGE three panel? picture windows looking out. I just start out incognito in the neighborhoods at most of those South Mountain locations :-$

It is pretty safe. People do it all the time.
