Hi,
I'm a newly turned 30yo transplant seeking hiking and/or birding partners. I'd prefer evening/weekend non-strenuous (I just quit smoking...ugh) hikes.
Anyone out there interested?
Post here or email me at
chris_debo@hotmail.com
Thanks!

I see a ton of birders along Bush highway by the river, say near the Phon D. Sutton area.....just a suggestion..

Welcome to HAZ and congrats on quitting; I quit in 1980 and it's the smartest thing I've ever done :!: Hang in there and you'll be amazed in the difference it'll make in your stamina :!:

Congrats on the quit smoking thing. I quit the first of May this year after
24 years. My gal Heather has been a big inspiration and she has me
hooked on hiking again. She does a lot of distance running too.
I could have done without that climb to Camelback Summit a week after
I quit though. I had no idea.
It's truly amazing how fast your stamina comes back to you. I'm really
loving it. Heather actually tells me it's hard to keep up sometimes. Not
sure if I can believe that though.
Welcome, and enjoy the great bunch of people here.

Bienvenidos a HAZ! I also congratulate you on quitting smoking. One of the premier birding areas in AZ, if not the country is the Nature Conservancy's Ramsey Canyon property in the Huachuca Mountains near Sierra Vista.

There are plenty of trails out of the Conservancy into the Huachucas to explore as well. It'll be rainy this time of year but that's a nice change. I'm not much of a birder myself but it's a great spot birders from all over the world. Good luck and take care.

Another good place to see birds is Madera Canyon south of Tucson. (Yes, also congrats on the smoking thing. I quit in 1978 and still celebrate each New Year's Day, the anniversary of my quitting.) You'll get your lungs back soon enough to be able to do Madera Canyon--it is worth it! Most of the birds are in the lower areas anyway. Lots of good birding in the White Mountains now too. I guess some of them got displaced from the fires and you can see birds you don't normally see in some areas of the Rim.
