Looking for a pocket sized thermometer, altimeter, compass gizmo. No
need for GPS at the moment. Something fairly accurate.
Anything in use out there? Any ideas? Any favorites?
Thx

I've mentioned my Suunto watch before...this is a great outdoor tool. Some features include:
Altimeter (up to 29,500 ft / 9,000m) with ascent/descent and heart rate data
Barometer with absolute pressure range 8.90-32.40 in Hg/300-1100 m bar
Digital compass with bubble level to ensure accuracy, shows degrees and cardinal or half cardinal point
Dual time, date, stopwatch, three daily alarms and backlight function
User replaceable battery
Suggested retail $299 (includes transmitter belt)
Suggested retail $269 (without transmitter)
In my photo, it's on my arm...
Looks like this

Pretty darn close. Thanks for the info.
Now why couldn't they have just squeezed a thermometer into that thing? It would be perfect.

It has one! the thermometer is on the same screen as the barometer...although your temperature is always a bit off, as it registers the temperature on your arm, rather than the ambient air temperature...though I figure it's close enough.
plus, out here, there are two temperatures....hot, and not as hot.
I think the most useful weather related function is the 3 and 6 hour weather(barometric pressure) indicator...it lets you know if there has a been a sharp increase or decrease in the pressure over the last 3 and 6 hours...useful in preparing for storms...

Motorola makes an FRS radio that has an altimiter, barameter, thermometer, compass, and a few other features. I think it even has a FM radio. They are under $100
Also, they are just starting to hit the market, but they have GPS's that have a FRS (or GMRS with a larger range) radio and all sorts of other things built into it. One unit that does everything. Those are pricey though.

found it:
( dead link removed ) AA Alkaline Radio
The satalite weather channels are very handy when backpacking and the unit will alert you when the national weather service puts out a weather alert in the area you are in.
I have and love the T6300.

Now if they put the weather stuff on this it would be a must have for everyone!

Thanks Daryl. I saw that 6320 earlier this morning. That is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. With a 2-way to boot!
The lowest I've seen so far is $90 for the NiMH model. The hunt goes on...
That Garmin is pretty sweet. Yes, if only...
