I'm interested. But hey, what's with the holiday hike? Wasn't your last hike the 4th of July? Is this a pattern? Cakewalk the Holiday Hiker?

Anyway I'd like to go if I can swing it.

Gonna be hard to find a place to park. YOu can park across the Beeline in the Rest Area if you can park at the trailhead. Take the South Fork to the old stone cabin. Probably no water in the creek maybe a few ponds.

It's time to resurrect this thread again as there are only 2 weeks until labor day.

I'm proposing a sunrise hike up the spine of camelback on the echo canyon trail. 5:30 am start will be necessary due to small parking area ( Ive NEVER had a problem parking as late as 6-6:30am however)

I welcome all who wish to join in on the fun!

Trail discription and driving directions can be found here

I don't have a clue for holidays. I do know Squaw Peak has been filling UP on weekends early. The far back lots where even half full by 6am! We're talking over 300 on the mountain in August.

On positive note! Even with the temps crankin' over 110 mid day there's a noticable difference in the mornings. You can almost touch the crisp cool air Halloween brings in.

I haven't had any problems parking on the weekends. I was there Sunday @ 5 am and it was fine. However on the 4th of July I was there before it was light at all and there was a line of cars to the street. Maybe Labor day will be better. I'd love to join you but I should (God and car willing) be backpacking from Fri-Mon. :P If not I may just show up.

GeorgAZ. Sorry, but there will be no agua in Deer Creek. Keep your fingers crossed that this supposed "el nino" will produce an early and strong rainy season.

Thanks for the hike Cakewalk!

My daughter and I enjoyed it. I have to come clean here. I'm a native and this is the first time I've ever done Camelback. Don't know why. I can certainly say I'm going to be doing it a lot more now.

Yeah, I enjoyed it as well... Was a pleasure meeting your daughter.

As alot of people warned, the parking lot DID fill up early. I got there around 5:15 and it was nearly empty, 20 minutes later it was full.

Kristyn, we waited for ya until about 5:40 and then went up slowly keeping an eye out for ya. Sorry we missed you.
